Overview

Gray AES is looking to add a Sr. Packing Engineer to its team in our Fullertyon, CA office or Remotely.

Who we want… (Requirements)

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in mechanical engineering with an emphasis on packaging systems is preferred.
  • Preferred 8+ years of demonstrated professional work experience in a Packaging Equipment Systems Engineering or related field of work.
  • Work experience with professional engineering services in food and beverage, life sciences, CPG, Pharmaceuticals or other related fields is preferred.
  • Significant experience in detailed packaging systems design related to food and beverage market is a plus.
  • Significant experience in at least 3-4 types of packaging equipment (i.e. filler, labeler, case packer, palletizer, etc.) is preferred.
  • Proficiency in MS Office. Advanced excel skills are a plus.
  • Ability to perform in a highly collaborative, cohesive team environment, with Gray AES, other teams in the Gray family of companies, or other external partner companies and a strong desire and aptitude to interact and build relationships with customers.
  • Effective communication skills, both oral and written, are required to support proactive coordination across all project disciplines. Examples of this include the development of engineering deliverables documentation and effective presentation of project materials to large and diverse project teams.
  • Experience in any aspects of development and execution of capital projects.
  • Demonstrated understanding and implementation of automation control systems (PLC, HMI, VFD’s, etc.) is preferred.
  • Ability to evaluate existing operations and suggest and drive solutions that provide ROI and improve productivity.

Qualifications

What we expect… (Essential Functions)

  • Providing leadership to the overall project team by serving as a packaging technical lead on complex, fully integrated projects of various sizes. Phases include FEL/FEED, Detailed Design, Procurement, Construction and Commissioning Support.
  • Lead all aspects of packaging systems design and integration development including line and equipment speed analysis, pack out matrix, block flow and general arrangement layout drawings, equipment lists, utility demand matrices, procurement specifications/approvals
  • With minimal support of others, can serve as a technical lead on efforts of all sizes and complexity. Fully capable of developing documentation or strategies prior to finalizing deliverables. Requests input as needed.
  • Superior understanding of project workflow and methods for determining needs and solutions for batch and/or continuous packaging systems. This includes developing specifications, assisting with estimation, project justification/ feasibility, budget, schedule, design, implementation, procurement, installation, startup,
  • commissioning, troubleshooting, and ensuring that facilities and equipment comply with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Can generate an entire estimate, scope of work, and proposal within their area of expertise. Can support and sometimes lead a sales call or site visit with a sales lead, Project Manager, Program Manager, and/or customer liaison. Able to significantly contribute to business development efforts and starting to develop own network for business generation. Can help own a customer relationship.
  • Travel is a regular expectation of this role and depends upon the location of projects and customers, the stage of project execution, and your role in the project. Travel may also be required for annual company meetings and some training
  • Overall average travel expectations for this role range from 20% to 40%.
  • Project-related travel can range from 30-50% during design development with a customer, to 10-20% travel during specification and procurement, and to 40-60% during installation and commissioning. These ranges depend on the location and type of project.
  • While the role requires travel, every effort is made to accommodate team members’ family and personal requirements and strive for a healthy work-life balance.

The wage range for this role takes into account a wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; certifications; as well as other business and organizational needs.  The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled.  It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.  A reasonable estimate of the current range is $130,000 to $145,000.

Specific vision abilities required include close vision.

 

Generally, normal office environment where noise level is moderate and temperature/humidity is controlled. Overtime may be required.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
